Synopsis

Schulze lives in a little village in the former East Germany. His life, going the rounds between work in the mines, regular visits to the pub, his garden, polka music and fishing, comes to a premature halt when he and his buddies are forced into early retirement. As life begins to dissolve around them, Schulze discovers a new way of playing the accordion that differs drastically from his beloved polka. It is the zydeco music of Louisiana’s Creoles. He decides to visit the New World. There, in Texas and Louisiana, he tries to cope with swamps, the local police, Czech brass musicians and French-speaking Cajuns.
