Synopsis

A series of experimental films representing the current Austrian music, film and audiovisual scene. Over the last decade, the Austrians have become celebrated for their development of the progressive electronic scene, whether radical “laptop-artists” seeking a role for software and notebooks in live, spontaneous music (Christian Fennesz, Peter Rehberg), electro-acoustic improvisers looking for new applications for their guitars and double basses (Werner Dafeldecker, Burkhard Stangl, Martin Siewert) or a post-rock band who demonstrate classic beat approaches via digital media or using unmediated and manual techniques (Radian). Animators and video creators work alongside them: if the musicians focus on the modern role of pure sound, silence, new abstraction and narration through technology, then the filmmakers, concentrating on light, dark, minimalism and the treatment of technical images, have a lot in common with them. The film Sonic Fiction was generated by the Sixpack production centre, an important experimental film company.
