Synopsis

At first glance, Katarina and Peter have a happy and well-functioning marriage. They have two adolescent daughters, Eva and Nina, who are a delight for them, rewarding jobs, a flat, a car… In short, all the good things in life. But their relationship, after years of living together, is stuck in the shallows of boredom and stereotypes. They’ve done everything, they’ve seen it all before, and their days together are desparately uninspiring. They are aware of their good sides, but see only the bad. Their love-making, like their marital squabbles, takes on its all-too-familiar pattern. So they look carefully around them, each of them hoping for a new chance. There is even mention of divorce, and the death of Katarina’s mother could represent the crossroads on their shared journey. But the couple can’t live contentedly with or without each other....

About the director

Igor Šterk (b. 1968, Ljubljana, Yugoslavia) is a graduate of the Theatre, Film and Television Academy in Ljubljana. His student documentary film Postcards (Razglednice, 1989) was awarded Best Screenplay and a special prize for visual portrayal at the Short Film Festival in Belgrade. His feature debut Express Express (Ekspres-ekspres, 1997) was entered in competition at the Manheim IFF, and screenings at other festivals earned the film 15 festival honours, including two main prizes. Ljubljana (named for his native city) is his second feature film, screened in the Forum of
Independents at the 37th KV IFF.
