Synopsis

A portrait of people living in contemporary Buenos Aires, a profoundly contradictory city where drama blends with comedy, friendship with enmity, abuse with solidarity, the desire to leave with the desire to stay. A fragmented story of uncertainty and decisions to be taken, with two women seeking a better life amidst economic and emotional dilemmas, a man finding strength and confidence in love, a couple who want a child at any cost, even if this requires them to use less orthodox means, and a man who believes he can change his life by emigrating to Ibiza... As time goes on, men and women of differing age, class and lifestyle try meanwhile (mientras tanto) to find the best possible route, be it within or outside the labyrinth that is Buenos Aires.

About the director

Diego Lerman (b. 1976, Buenos Aires) studied in Buenos Aires and Cuba. In 2003 he wrote, directed and co-produced (with Lita Stantic) his first feature film, Suddenly (Tan de Repente) which was awarded many prizes at various international film festivals, including the Silver Leopard in Locarno. That same year Lerman was one of the directors selected by Cinefondation to receive support for his new script, Meanwhile (Mientras Tanto). In 2004 the script was awarded the Opening Shot Prize for Best Screenplay (Cinefondation and Fondation Gan). Lerman also directed six short films including La Prueba (1999) and The War of the Gymnasiums (2005). Meanwhile is his second feature film.
