Rossitsa Valkanova, chairwoman

Bulgarian producer. A graduate in film direction from Sofia’s National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts, she went on to direct shorts and documentaries. After establishing KLAS Film, she produced Iglika Triffonova’s Letter to America, which competed in Karlovy Vary’s East of the West competition in 2002, and Crayfish (2009) by Ivan Cherkelov. She also produced Christmas Tree Upside Down (2006, dir. Ivan Cherkelov, Vassil Zhivkov), which screened in the main competition at the 41st KVIFF, winning the Special Jury Prize. Her most recent production is Dragomir Sholev’s debut effort, Shelter. She is a member of the European Film Academy.

 
Sitora Alieva

Sitora Alieva

Programme Director of Russia’s Kinotavr film festival. A native of Dushanbe, Tajikistan, she began as a child actor and later studied screenwriting and film history. She has lived in Moscow since the beginning of the 1990s, where she was involved in the Fund for Cinema Support and was an editor on the journal Film Art. In the years 1999-2005 she was director and programmer of the Sochi IFF and, in 2002-2005, executive director of Kinotavr film festival, which she now heads. She has served on the jury of various film festivals, including Mar del Plata, Tallinn and Berlin.

 
Stefan Arsenijević

Stefan Arsenijević

Serbian film director. He graduated in film and television direction from Belgrade’s Faculty of Dramatic Arts, where he now works. He has won several dozen awards for his short films, including Berlin’s Golden Bear and the European Film Academy award. His short film (A)torsion was nominated for an Oscar. Love and Other Crimes, his feature film debut, premiered at Berlin; it won Best Director at Sofia and was also seen by Karlovy Vary audiences. He is currently one of the directors contributing to the collection of film stories Do Not Forget Me Istanbul.

 
Matthieu Darras

Matthieu Darras

French festival programmer. In 2001 he cofounded Nisi Masa, a non-profit association of young filmmakers which has helped launch a number of projects. He has been on the selection committee of Critics’ Week at Cannes since 2005. In the years 2009 and 2010 he was Artistic Director of the Bratislava IFF and he was previously on the board of Italy’s Alba IFF. He selects film projects for film labs run by the Turin and Jerusalem festivals, and he also secures movies from Central and Eastern Europe for the San Sebastian IFF. He has been contributing to the prestigious film magazine Positif for many years.

 
Lukasz Dzieciol

Łukasz Dzięcioł

Polish film producer. A graduate of the University of Łódź, he also studied in Cologne and Los Angeles. Via Opus Film he has been involved in the production of numerous motion pictures, including Sławomir Fabicki’s Retrieval, which was screened at Cannes and was nominated to represent Poland at the Oscars. His production of A Boy on a Galloping Horse by Adam Guziński premiered at the Cannes IFF. He recently produced Zero by Paweł Borowski and My Flesh My Blood by Marcin Wrona. He was one of the participants on the prestigious panel Producers on the Move during this year’s Cannes IFF.
