It promises to be a highly promising start to the main festival competition at 8 PM in the Grand Hall at Hotel Thermal. This year a total of 14 films will be presented, the first of which will be Denmark’s Applause.
The first statistics to be released for the 44th Karlovy Vary film festival are very positive. By 6 PM today the festival had accredited 7,641 participants.
On Saturday afternoon, just like at last night’s gala opening, director Miloš Forman and his wife walked the red carpet. He was accompanied by a delegation of filmmakers connected with A Walk Worthwhile who attended Saturday’s world premiere.
Beginning today, the Karlovy Vary festival will present a retrospective of French filmmaker Patrice Chéreau. The first movie presented to viewers will be The Wounded Man, a choice which pleased Chéreau because he considers this film to be truly his first.
Here in the Czech Republic, many people are not familiar with an original American director and screenwriter named Alan Rudolph, although perhaps they know his adaptation of Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions starring Bruce Willis. This year the Karlovy Vary festival is about to change all that.
Three exceptional works from the history of world and Czech cinema will be presented to Karlovy Vary festival viewers in new, restored copies where they belong – on the big screen.

Following yesterday evening’s gala opening ceremonies of the 44th Karlovy Vary festival, the opening film, the intimate American drama The Greatest, also received a gala screening.
The parade of famous guests arriving for the Karlovy Vary film festival will kick off on Saturday early evening with the world premiere of A Walk Worthwhile by Miloš Forman.
