The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival joins the rest of the world in protesting the arrest of Iranian film director Jafar Panahi, whose work (The Mirror, The Circle, Offside) is known the world over.
“Written, produced, and directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.” This celebrated title graces almost 20 films by perhaps the most remarkable creating duo in the history of film. The 45th Karlovy Vary IFF will devote one of its retrospectives to the filmmakers.
82 films will be screened during the fith Prague Short Film Festival which will take place in Prague’s Světozor cinema January, 20- 24, 2010. The program is announced. Tickets will go on sale on January 14 in the box office of Svetozor Cinema.
Even though the European Film Awards, the European equivalent of Oscars, will not be officially announced until December, the European Film Academy released as every year the names of several winners already in October. And we are happy to report a strong link with the 44th KVIFF program.
Thanks to the Association of Czech Film Clubs, Czech audience will soon be able to enjoy three new films, very different and very innovative in their genre and style: For a Moment Freedom, A Town Called Panic and Fish Tank.
Distribution company Cinemart will introduce two films into Czech cinemas within the next six months: Whisky with Vodka (Best Director Award) and A Matter of Size (Audience Award).
The festival juries have awarded the best films of the 44th Karlovy Vary IFF 2009 during the Official Closing on July 11.
Saturday afternoon, even before the gala closing ceremonies of the 44th Karlovy Vary IFF, six non-statutory awards were conferred.
