Thirty-something Bogdan has started a furniture company, gotten married and had a child. Now he is spending a holiday with his family by the Black Sea and his wife is expecting another baby. At the resort he meets two classmates from secondary school who have yet to settle down and take up their responsibilities. Boogie (as the protagonist was called in his school days) gets into an intellectual and emotional confrontation with Sorin and Vali after an evening spent in a restaurant, bowling hall, bar and at the guest house with a prostitute. Trying to get back to their teenage years leaves a bitter taste in their mouths as all three have changed, Bogdan in particular on account of his obligations... The film glimpses into the souls of its protagonists via an unostentatious method of direction. The static shots, authentic sound and outstanding acting performances give us the sense of being a party to the disenchantment of a generation entering middle age.
Radu Muntean (b. 1971, Bucharest) studied direction at the Theatre and Film Academy in the Romanian capital. Since 1996 he has made more than 400 commercials and shorts. He successfully debuted in feature film with The Rage (Furia, 2002), which takes a look at crime in illegal automobile racing. Muntean’s name became even better known on the international stage after his second feature film The Paper Will Be Blue (Hârtia va fi albastră, 2006), which takes place in a military setting during the fall of the Ceauşescu regime in December of 1989. A large part of Muntean’s production team from this previous project worked on his third feature film, Boogie, including screenwriting duo Alexandru Baciu and Răzvan Rădulescu.
