Film Entry
43rd Karlovy Vary IFF 2008
Application deadline: April 18, 2008
The regular program of the Karlovy Vary IFF consists of:
- Official Selection - Competition of Feature Films
Only 35mm films made after the January 1, 2007 which have not been previously shown in an international competition of another film festival can be included; the films must be presented as World, International or European Premieres - Documentary Films in Competition
Both short and full length - East of the West - Films in Competition
Feature-length films from Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union - Forum of Independents
Independent films from around the world compete for Independent Camera Award
and following non-competitive categories:
- Open Eyes (the latest outstanding works)
- Horizons (the recent productions from around the world)
- Another View (films revealing unusual artistic approaches)
- Variety Critics´s Choice (ten European films selected by the critics of the Variety magazine)
- Czech Films
The program also includes a number of focuses, retrospectives and tributes that change every year.
Before applying please read the festival regulations
If you want to submit a film, please send us a screener of your film with a tag saying “NO COMMERCIAL VALUE – FOR CULTURAL PURPOSES ONLY“. The Program Committee will then carry out the selection.
Please send the following information together with the screener:
- Year of production (only films produced in 2007 and 2008 can be presented)
- Length of the film
- Information whether the screening in Karlovy Vary would be a World, International or European Premiere. In case that the screening will not be a premiere please list festivals the film has participated at so far
The festival does not charge any entry fee.

Short Films
Short fiction films are screened at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival only exceptionally, on special occasions. You can submit your film for competition in the Prague Short Film Festival created in 2005 by the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival team.
The 4th Prague Short Film Festival will take place on November 12 - 16, 2008 in Prague’s Světozor cinema. The film submission deadline is September 1, 2008. See www.pragueshorts.com for more information or contact us at info@pragueshorts.com .
