Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

Film Entry

Only those applicants whose DVDs are posted before April 2, 2010 will be considered for the 45th Karlovy Vary IFF 2010.

In case that the original language of the film is not English, the screener must be provided with English subtitles. Please do not forget to send the following materials together with the screener: press kit (if available), director CV, synopsis of the film. The materials sent by email will not be accepted.

Important: Films that had their festival premiere before July 2009 (in case of documentaries before October 2009) cannot be considered for the program.

The regular program of the Karlovy Vary IFF consists of:

Official Selection - Competition of Feature Films
Only 35mm films made after the January 1, 2009 which have not been previously shown in an international competition of another film festival can be included; the films must be presented as World, International or European Premieres
Documentary Films in Competition
Both short and full length
East of the West - Films in Competition
Feature-length films from Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union
Forum of Independents
Independent films from around the world compete for Independent Camera Award

and following non-competitive categories:

Open Eyes (fresh from Cannes and other outstanding films)
Horizons (the recent productions from around the world, including festival highlights and award-winners from other festivals)
Another View (films revealing unusual artistic approaches)
Variety Critics´ Choice (ten European films selected by the critics of the Variety magazine - please kindly note that it is not possible to apply for this section)
Czech Films

The program also includes a number of focuses, retrospectives and tributes that change every year.

Submitting a film

Before applying please read the festival regulations

If you want to submit a film, please fill out the on-line registration form and then send us a screener of your film together with the press kit (if available), director CV, synopsis of the film (it is not possible to send these materials by e-mail). The package should have a tag saying “NO COMMERCIAL VALUE – FOR CULTURAL PURPOSES ONLY“. The Program Committee will then carry out the selection. In order to be able to fill out the registration form, you must log in. If you do not have log in access, please register here.

The festival does not charge any entry fee
Only films produced in 2009/2010 and provided with English subtitles can be presented at the festival. The festival does not accept short films (except for the Documentary films in Competition)
You will get a notification by e-mail, once we receive your DVD
We will inform you about the final decision of the Selection Committee by the end of May 2010 at the latest
