Karin Schockweiler Karin Schockweiler

After her studies in marketing-communication in Germany and production studies at UCLA, Karin Schockweiler started her professional career in 1989 at KirchGroup, Munich, in Corporate Communications. In 1991 she changed to ProSieben TV where she was first handling Program Press, and after being appointed to Kabelkanal (Kabel 1) first and DSF (Deutsches SportFernsehen) to launch the communication department, she went back to the programming department of ProSieben in 1994. She has been nominated head of acquisition series and international co-production in 1996 and left the channel in 2000. From 2000 to 2004 she was working as an independent media consultant for development and financing of international co-production, distribution and evaluating program catalogues in Munich and Paris. In April 2004 she was appointed director of MEDIA Desk Luxemburg which is part of Film Fund Luxemburg.  She is the Luxemburg representative at the Board of Management of “eurimages” since 2010, member of the Creative Europe-Media committee and Deputy Director Film Fund Luxemburg since November 2013.

The Film Fund of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, first established in 1990 then restructured in 1999, exists primarily to promote and foster an environment in which the country’s film production industry can develop and flourish.

The Fund, an official body supervised the minister responsible for the audiovisual sector and by the minister responsible for culture, implements the overall policy of the government’s support for audiovisual productions and assists supervisory Ministers in areas such as the drafting of regulations and legislation. Thus it manages the various programs through which the Luxembourg government provides financial incentives to audiovisual productions.

Film Fund Luxembourg represents Luxembourg in all European audiovisual initiatives, like Eurimages, the pan-european co-production fund and Creative Europe.

With the aim of providing a framework for a Luxembourg audiovisual industry in full expansion, the Fund is also responsible for promoting the Luxembourg sector, developing international co-production agreements and delivering certificates on the nationality of works.


Kim Yutani Kim Yutani

She focuses on the programming of US and World Cinema dramatic feature films for the Sundance Film Festival. She oversees short film programming for the Festival, where she has been a shorts programmer since 2006. She also works on the Offscreen series of panels and conversations at the Festival, and is a programmer for Sundance Film Festival: Hong Kong.

Kim started her programming career at Outfest Los Angeles, one of the world’s leading events for LGBT cinema, where she was the Artistic Director and the Director of Programming. She has been a reader for Creative Capital and on the short film nominating committee for Cinema Eye Honors, and has served on juries at the Toronto International Film Festival and Berlin International Film Festival. Prior to her film festival work, Kim was a film critic and freelance journalist focusing on independent film.

The Sundance Film Festival has introduced global audiences to some of the most groundbreaking films of the past three decades, including Boyhood, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Fruitvale Station, Whiplash, Brooklyn, Twenty Feet from Stardom, Life Itself, The Cove, The End of the Tour, Blackfish, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Super Size Me, Dope, Little Miss Sunshine, sex, lies, and videotape, Reservoir Dogs, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, An Inconvenient Truth, Precious and Napoleon Dynamite. The New Frontier initiative, celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2016, has showcased groundbreaking media works by artists and creative technologists including Chris Milk, Doug Aitken, Palmer Luckey, Klip Collective and Nonny de la Peña. The Festival is a program of the non-profit Sundance Institute.


Meinolf Zurhorst Meinolf Zurhorst

After studying History of Art, Film and Television and Anthropology, he became a film critic and author of almost 20 books about cinema and actors. In the 1980s co-founder of a production company which produced special interest programs for German TV, in particular for Voice of Germany. In the late 1980s, co-founder of second company for post- and film-production. Co-writer and director of several documentaries, the most known ones about two German stars, Götz George and Mario Adorf. 1992 commissioning editor in the cinema department of ARTE in Strasbourg, since 1994 director of this department. Since 2000 head of the ARTE film department of the ZDF (ZDF is one of ARTE’s shareholders), which acquires and co-produces movies for ARTE. Expert for EAVE and ACE, jury member at several international festivals, lecturer at Film Factory in Sarajevo.

ZDF/arte’s recent co-productions are for example Upstream by Marion Hänsel, Soy Negro by Rafi Pitts, Land of Salt and Fire by Werner Herzog, Clair Obscur by Yesim Ustaoglu, Pyromania by Erik Skjoldbjærg, Cartas de Guerra by Ivo Ferreira or Montanha by Joao Salaviza.

Upcoming films are for example Foxtrot by Shmuel Maoz, Grain by Semih Kaplanoglu, Where Live Begins by Carlos Reygadas, The Untamed by Amat Escalante, Fanny Lye Delivered by Thomas Clay, Refuge by Eran Riklis, Superfluous Man by Kornél Mundruczó and Game Count by Agnieszka Holland.

ARTE is on air since 1992 and is a French-German Cultural TV-Channel. It’s unique in Europe as it is public, ambitious and quality driven. The shareholders, which are producing and delivering all the programs, are ARTE France and in Germany the two public broadcasters ARD and ZDF. ARTE’s program presents different formats of documentaries, TV-dramas an series and in particular director-driven, European and international movies.

ARTE is looking for originality in a mass media like television, therefore working with interesting talents all over the world with a focus on European films. The station wants to be (and is) a driving force in the (co-)production of feature length documentaries and artistically high-aiming movies.

Best known is ARTE therefore for its engagement in films. Around 40 films per year are co-produced either by ARTE France or ARD and ZDF for ARTE. These films are regulars in the competition of the major festivals like Berlin, Cannes and Venice.

Film synopsis

Borders, Raindrops a film about longing and belonging, set high up in the mountains above the Adriatic Sea. A city girl, Jagoda, visits her extended family in the Balkan countryside during the summer, and her presence awakens hope, love, and the sense of mystery. In the first half of the film, set in Montenegro, her presence helps her cousin Zdravko overcome his shyness and isolation. In the Bosnian half, her young relative Luka learns important lessons about friendship and tolerance in her company. The atmosphere is key to this film, built around painterly visual style, ethnographic detail, quirky humour, eclectic soundtrack and ambiguous characters/storytelling.

Director’s filmography

Nikola Mijović and Vlastimir Sudar have both grown up in the former Yugoslavia and moved to UK in the 1990s, where they have met while studying film at Central Saint Martins College. Over the past fifteen years, they have been working with the still and the moving images, directing a number of short films, both independently and on a commission. Their academic research and writing about cinema has been published internationally. They both currently work as lecturers in film studies at the University of the Arts London. Borders, Raindrops is the second feature length script they wrote together, but the first one that made it into production, after winning a development award at Sarajevo Film Festival. 

Producer’s filmography

Nikola Mijović and Vlastimir Sudar have a long experience in producing short and experimental films, both in UK and the lands of former Yugoslavia. For the production of Borders, Raindrops they formed a company, Balkan Kino, after this project won CineLink award funded by the Goteborg Film Festival as a project in development, at Sarajevo Film Festival in 2008. In the following years Borders, Raindrops won public film funding competitions in the Republic of Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Montenegro and Serbia. Balkan Kino’s partners are Montenegro Max Films from Montenegro and All Inclusive Films from Belgrade, whose knowledge and experience has helped the project arrive to this point.  

Producer’s statement

The film received financial support from the culture ministries of Republic of Srpska, Montenegro and Serbia (€230,000 in total) and €70,000 from smaller funders and in services. As the major part of these funds were for the production, we are looking for partners to complete post-production, especially sound. We are also seeking partners for global sales and distribution. For us, this film represents a ‘love letter’ to the place and the people sidelined by recent history, and almost forgotten in economic, political and cultural terms. It is also a plea for reconciliation in the post-Yugoslav landscape, and an indictment of strict border controls, which is now a global issue.

Film synopsis

A secluded fast food joint next to an empty parking lot, where it's good to go, because nobody recognizes you there. On a rainy autumnal day, people show up one after the other – all of them on the verge of a breakdown – or perhaps a breakthrough? The main character, Waitress, sees and absorbs it all. One by one – through their personal drama – the clients push the Waitress towards her own edge.

Priit Pääsuke is an Estonian director, editor and producer. In 2008 his short fiction Black Peter premiered at the Tampere Film Festival, was screened at 22 film festivals and won 11 prizes (Sleepwalkers SSFF 2008 – Best Estonian Short Film, Kinoshock 2008 – Jury’s Special Mention, Sao Paulo ISFF 2008, Leeds IFF 2008, Manaki Brothers FF 2008 – Jury’s Special Prize, Zagreb FF 2008, Drama ISFF 2008, Scanorama 2008, Aza Digital Cinema Festival 2008 – Cinematic Achievement Award, Open Cinema ISAFF 2008 – Prize for the Bright Expression of the European Existential Crisis). In 2015 he premiered a feature documentary Impromptu. The End of The Chain is Priit’s fiction feature debut.

Producer’s filmography

Marianne Ostrat, an Estonian film producer, is the founder and partner of  Alexandra Film and Fork Film Animation Studio. In 2009 she premiered a medium length drama Strays (Special Mentions at The Norwegian Short FF 2009, Nordisk Panorama 2009, Sleepwalkers SSFF 2008; altogether 11 film festivals incl. Sofia IFF, Uruguay IFF, Warsaw IFF, GoShorts ISFF). After that she premiered a short documentary Being Normal (2010) and an environmental documentary The Measure of Man (2011, CinemaPlaneta FF – Audience Award, Matsalu INFF – Special Mention). In 2013 she participated in the EAVE European Producers Workshop. The End of the Chain is Marianne’s fiction feature debut. 

Producer’s statement

The End of The Chain is based on a theatre play by an Estonian Oxford philosophy, political sciences and economics graduate Paavo Piik and born out of our curiosity for this post-dramatic material carrying a strong statement about the contemporary urban life. We shot the film with experimental film support from The Cultural Endowment of Estonia, equipment investments from four leading Estonian rental houses, deferrals from the director, producer and some crew members and sponsorships. Currently in editing, we look for financing and/or co-production partners for both sound and picture post to premiere the film at an A-list festival in the first half of 2017 and release it theatrically after that.

Film synopsis

Lena is a 17-year old from a normal family, experiencing first love, secret night-time adventures, and magic mornings along the Danube. Her dreams are shattered after being raped. Lena must set out on a journey that is not simply about coming of age, but a struggle with herself. Others misunderstand her, and will never quite understand her. It is Lena who must grow up and learn that she is not the one who deserves punishment.

Tereza Nvotová (b. 1988) grew up in Bratislava and she lives in Prague recently. She is about to graduate from FAMU as Director. Filthy is her feature film debut. She directs documentaries for Czech and Slovak Public TV and is recently working on her second feature documentary about former Slovak PM Vladimir Mečiar for HBO. Tereza also co-writes feature film scripts and works as an actress in feature films.

Producer’s statement

Filthy is a feature debut of Tereza Nvotová, who is recently graduating from FAMU, Prague film school. We shot 75% of the film so far, the last part of shooting is scheduled for beginning of September. Than we need to finish the in progress offline edit and complete the picture and sound postproduction. The total budget is €335,000 and we still need to find €34,000 to be fully financed. We would like to have the opening night of Filthy on a festival like Berlinale and we plan to send the final edit to Forum or Panorama programme in October. The cinema distribution in the Czech and Slovak Republic will start in April 2017. Other countries will depend on the strategy of the sales agent.

Film synopsis

After an incident in a bar, Laurentiu gets a serious head injury, but refuses to get treatment, as he insists on waiting for his brother's return home from work in Germany, in order to confess something important. We intimately glimpse into his last living day at home, picking up the puzzle pieces of his life, fears and the decisions that brought him to this ending.

Director’s filmography

Nicolae Constantin Tanase studied at FAMU, and finished film directing at UNATC (Romania, 2009). His graduation-short Outrageously Disco won several awards, and his first independent short, Blu, brought him the Best Romanian Short Award at Transilvania IFF in 2012. His short 12 Minutes was selected in several film festivals, including Namur IFF, Thessaloniki IFF. His debut feature, The World Is Mine, premiered in Transilvania IFF 2015 and was awarded Best Romanian Debut. The international premiere was in Karlovy Vary's – East of the West Competition, where the film received Special Jury's Mention. On its festival circuit, and gathered two more awards on its way – Anonimul's Trophy for Best Feature and Cottbus’ Discovery Award.

Producer’s filmography

With a professional background in cultural project management, Anamaria Antoci began working in film production after joining 4 Proof Film in 2012. In 2014, the EAVE graduate produced her first feature, Adrian Sitaru’s Illegitimate, which premiered at the Forum in Berlin this year and won C.I.C.A.E. Award. Anamaria recently completed Sitaru’s latest feature The Fixer (CineLink 2015 Work in Progress – Post Republic Award), and entered into production with her first documentary project, Planeta Petrila, directed by Andrei Dascalescu, co-produced by HBO Europe (IDFA Forum Award at East Doc Platform 2016). Anamaria was among the 20 European producers selected this year for Cannes Producers on the Move.

Producer’s statement

The project is currently in post-production, in early editing phase, with two additional days of shooting needed. In order to finalize and deliver the movie we are searching for partners to help us secure the missing gap in our finance estimated for about 50,000 euro. Our goal is to complete the film by the end of this year and to premiere it in 2017.

Heads and Tails, second feature of Nicolae Constantin Tanase, has the same young creative team as his first film The World is Mine. I felt very much intrigued by Nicolae’s particular way of storytelling, completely different from his previous film, and by the way he portraits this intimate camera-study on losing life.

Film synopsis

President with the prime-minister and four armed supporters flees into the mountainous region. Decamped group tries to escape from pursuers by changing locations permanently, but an invisible follower strives to put its victims under a constant psychological pressure. They try to assist president in suicide or liquidate him and create a myth of suicide. On the way President gets rumours about loyal troops, waiting for him and ready for starting partisan movement to regain his legitimate power. Pursuers manage to control each step of the group and make it move in the direction they wish.

George Ovashvili is a film director and from Tbilisi, Georgia. He graduated from the film department of the Georgian State Institute of Cinema and Theatre in 1996 and the course of filmmaking of The New York Film Academy at Universal Studios in Hollywood (2006). His first long feature The Other Bank (2009) was screened at more than 100 international film festivals and won about 50 international prizes. Corn Island (2014)  won Crystal Globe of KVFF and has been shortlisted for 2015 year’s Oscar nomination in the best foreign language film category.

Film synopsis

The knight Bořek sets off on the trail of his missing son. Little Jan has run away from home, rushing after a dream, an illusion about the holy mission of children. His aging father searches for him, trying to catch up with his son, but he is always too late, finding only witnesses who say they have seen the boy. He manages to glean some scraps of information from them and tries to use them to piece together his son’s fate. He even projects his lost son onto children he encounters on his journey. Bořek’s state of mind starts to crumble and the landscape, he is travelling through, bit by bit resembles his mental landscape. The only material evidence he finds are items associated with Jan: his little sword and christening coin. These are real clues but he is unable to assess them properly. In the end he is unable to distinguish between reality and theatrical representation of the myth.

Director Václav Kadrnka was born in September 1973 in Zlín, Czechoslovakia. In 1988, he emigrated with his family to the United Kingdom, where he studied theatre. From 1999 till 2008 he studied feature film directing at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague. His full-length feature debut Eighty Letters was premiered at the International Film Festival Berlinale 2011 and was well received internationally. It has been presented at many international festivals, receiving major awards. In 2012, Václav Kadrnka was awarded the Czech film critics prize for discovery of the year. He has been working for four years on the Little Crusader project.

The production company Artileria was established in 2006 in Bratislava. Film Other Worlds (dir. Marko Škop) won a Special Mention and Audience Award at the 2006 Karlovy Vary IFF. Blind Loves (dir. Juraj Lehotský) had its world premiere in the Direcotrs’ Fortnight and won CICAE Award in Cannes 2008. Osadné (dir. Marko Škop) was awarded the Best Documentary film at the Karlovy Vary IFF 2009. Eva Nová (dir. Marko Škop ) won a FIPESCI Award at the Toronto IFF 2015.​

Producer’s statement

Current status: final stage of post-production before color grading, sound design and SFX. Project was supported by Eurimages Development Award at Rome FF and the production stage was supported by Czech State Cinematography Fund, Slovak Audiovisual Fund and Sardegna Film Commission. It is co-produced with Czech Television, Barrandov Studios and RWE. Budget: €1.5 K. Film was entirely shot in Italy and in the main cast is a leading Czech actor Karel Roden. Looking for world sales.

Film synopsis

Their wedding in only two weeks, Anita and Bekim are adding the final touches to their big day. Despite expecting news of Anita’s parents, who are missing since the 1999 Kosovar War, and Bekim’s controlling family in turn, the couple seem to manage somehow with the preparations. But when Bekim’s secret ex-lover Nol returns from abroad unexpectedly, the situation becomes complicated, especially when Bekim realizes that Nol is still in love with him. Inevitably, the wedding banquet becomes loaded with tension when the unusual love triangle starts to unravel.

Blerta Zeqiri is an award-winning Kosovar director and scriptwriter, and a member of the European Film Academy. Blerta’s shorts have appeared in many world-renowned festivals; among them Oberhausen, Telluride, Palm Springs, the Hamptons, and Sundance, where she won Best International Short Fiction Award.

Producer’s filmography

The Marriage is Keka Berisha's first feature as a producer, after previously working as a producer, script writer and editor on different shorts, ads and TV shows, including Blerta Zeqiri’s 5 last short films.

Producer’s statement

The idea for the film started from two friends: one who recently found out that her husband and father her children was gay and was leading a double life throughout their marriage; and a gay friend, who in his thirties finds himself under huge pressure to get married. From these two instances, we, together with the director, saw that same sex love in Kosovo and any other conservative surrounding is the Romeo and Juliette story of modern times.

We are now in the editing phase, which we expect to finish by the end of summer 2016, when we will start submitting it to film festivals. At the same time we are looking for additional funding for color grading, sound post-production and promotion.

Film synopsis

On the day a family pet rabbit dies, Mrs J, a modest middle-aged widow, former administrative clerk with a high school diploma and no job, decides to complete all her chores: bury the rabbit, wash a sink full of dishes, go to the store, dig up an old family pistol. Her late husband’s pistol. She is determined to kill herself with that gun on the anniversary of her husband's death.

Mrs J decides to make peace with her pregnant older daughter Anna and decides to collect her severance pay from the bankrupt factory she spent half her life working in. In a country which is going through social transition and comprehensive administrative reform, this will be highly complicated.

Director’s filmography

Bojan Vuletić collaborated as a co-writer with Stefan Arsenijević on the omnibus Lost and Found (story Fabulous Vera) and feature Love and Other Crimes, for which he was two times granted a best script award at national festivals.

His first feature film Practical Guide to Belgrade with Singing and Crying premiered at Karlovy Vary Film Festival in East of the West Competition. At the moment he is editing his second feature film Requiem for Mrs J.

Producer’s statement

The film deals with one of the painful and unavoidable issues in Eastern Europe – transition. The newly established political and economic system often causes a mindset change and the crisis of the values system. And this inevitably leads to an identity crisis.

The heroine of the film, Mrs J, tries to solve with suicide the despair faces. Thus, transition is the theme and the story is initiated by her attempt to commit suicide. The film will treat this complex dramatic situation with a directing procedure that uses irony, self-irony and black humor. Thus the theme itself acquires a special dimension.

Requiem for Mrs J features Mirjana Karanović, renowned acress, as Mrs J.

Film synopsis

Emete, accuses his husband of the loss of their son. According to Emete, because Ekber has disrespected her religious beliefs, Hasan disappeared all of a sudden. Their daughter Suna, she's completely out of touch with the feelings of her father.

After 15 years, an injured young man comes to their home. Emete believes that The Wall in which she has faith makes her wish real: Hasan is back at home. But Suna watched her mother while she was praying and sure that her wish doesn’t come true. Ekber wants to believe that the young man is Hasan, because only if he’s Hasan, he will get rid of blaming himself. When the young man gets better and tells his name is Selim, the faith is re-fictionalized.


Director’s filmography

Orhan Eskiköy founded Perisan Film company in 2009 together with Özgür Dogan in order to make creative films. On the Way to School (2009), which they co-directed, was their first feature documentary film. It was supported by the Sundance and Jan Vrijman Funds and selected to many prestigious festivals worldwide. On the Way to School was a big success in Turkey with various international festival awards and with almost 100,000 admissions at the box-office. Orhan’s first feature-length film Voice of My Father (co-directed with Zeynel Dogan) was selected for the Tiger Competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2012 and went on to win several festival awards.

Armagan Lale founded Filmada in 2013 to work with innovative young filmmakers. Before, she worked as an assistant director and associate producer in several feature films and documentaries.
