Synopsis

Viktor is successful both at work and as the father of the promising student Petr. However, the family unexpectedly finds itself in a deep crisis when his wife dies. The father and son, who up to now had no difficulties, have suddenly to come to terms with problems which at first seem to them completely banal: housework and the basic necessities of life. It turns out that intelligent, educated and organisationally skilled men can fail in no time when faced with everyday life, especially when they refuse to acknowledge it. Their neighbour Lupínek, with four grandchildren to look after, warns them in vain, and offers a helping hand. Uncle Artur, who has problems with his wife, a woman who will not allow herself to be pushed aside, seems to be yet another complication. Then Viktor’s seductive colleague finds herself in the game, as does Petr’s fellow student Zuzana. Viktor and Petr have to help themselves – and it seems they simply can’t get by in life without women.

About the director

Martin Kotík (b. 1974, Prague) studied film science at the Arts Faculty of Charles University and later production at Prague’s Film Academy (FAMU),  where he graduated in analysis of structures and the strategy of multiplexes. He has been directing since 1996. His work comprises primarily comedy, from grotesque situations to conversation comedies. In 1998, whilst still a student, he founded the company Major K International focused on the creation, production and distribution of audio-visual works. The comedy series "No Problem" was written and filmed under its auspices in 1997, and in 1999 the series of poetic comedies "Max Marvel Show" (1999), a series of poetic comedies, which was successfully sold to a number of foreign TV companies. He and his team also wrote the series "Colleagues" and "Agatha & Co." for the actress Iva Janžurová. He is at present completing the mid-length TV comedy The Czechs Attack.
