About the film

Lorenzo Maggi is an ambitious lawyer who has just taken on a big deal with Russia. Until now he has had everything – a reliable business partner, Paolo, a glamorous girlfriend named Silvia, a beautiful flat in the centre of Genoa, and a career well off the ground. In life however, it doesn’t take much for everything to suddenly assume another dimension. Lorenzo collapses in the street and finds himself in a hospital where he is presumed to have a brain tumour. Until the doctors either confirm or reject the terrifying diagnosis, the kiss of death forces him to face questions he had never asked until now. And though he is given a helping hand by Giovanni, who shares a hospital room with him, it  is primarily up to Lorenzo to find a way to deal with the oppressive situation. “Lorenzo’s story is a metaphor for my poorly masked desire to make a film about relationships between people and about how they change according to our state of health, regardless of whether these are close or distant relationships,” says the director.

About the director

Eugenio Cappuccio (b. 1961, Latina) studied screenwriting at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, where he received his diploma in 1985. He worked as an assistant to Federico Fellini on the film Ginger and Fred and collaborated with him on other projects as well. In 1990, at Fellini’s request, he began working on the documentary Toward the Moon with Fellini. He also made music videos and documentary films, and debuted as a feature film director with Il caricatore (1997), on which Massimo Gaudioso and Fabio Nunziata also participated. The film won a number of awards and the three of them met up again to make La vita è una sola (1998). He then directed and produced the digital film Come mosche (2003) which was followed by I Truly Respect You (Volevo solo dormirle addosso, 2004), presented at Karlovy Vary IFF in 2005.
