He is in Karlovy Vary for the international premiere of competition picture Sherrybaby by Laurie Collyer, in which, for a change, he gets to play a good guy. We caught up with him at the Grand Hotel Pupp.
Ex-Monty Python man Terry Gilliam is at KVIFF to present his latest film Tideland, an American Gothic fantasy based on the novel of the same name by Mitch Currin. The director spoke to us shortly before he personally introduced the movie at Thermal on Tuesday.
Tom Wilkinson is in Vary with his A Good Woman, which is based on Lady Windermere’s Fan by Oscar Wilde. The British character actor (who has appeared in everything from In the Bedroom to Batman Begins) gave us a few minutes of his time on Wednesday.
Michael Caton-Jones is in town to present his picture Shooting Dogs (Horizons section), which is set against the background of the horrifying Rwandan genocide of 1994. The Scottish director – who found last year’s KVIFF guest Sharon Stone hard to work with on Basic Instinct II – gave us a short interview at the Hotel Pupp on Wednesday morning.
Goran Paskaljević, one of the most distinguished directors from the former Yugoslavia, studied film at Prague’s FAMU school. He is currently at KVIFF as president of the grand jury, which will decide which of the 15 films in competition wins this year’s main Crystal Globe award. He spoke to us before a screening at the Thermal’s Grand Hall.
The British actress Saffron Burrows, came to this year’s KVIFF to present the unusually violent film Gangster No. 1. Ahead of the screening she gave us a short interview at the Grand Hotel Pupp.

Timothy Hutton, who won an Oscar for his performance in Ordinary People, is at Karlovy Vary with Robert Shaye. Shaye is a highly successful producer, but is returning to the director’s chair with Mimzy, which the actor stars in. We spoke to Timothy Hutton about Mimzy, his early success, his peers Tom Cruise and Sean Penn, directing the video to the Cars’ Drive and filming at Karlovy Vary’s Grand Hotel Pupp.
