Accompanying Events
Meeting of the members of the European Film Academy was held on 7 July in the Grandhotel Pupp and was attended by: Ana Arrieta (Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematograficas), Hédi Zardi (Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma – Les „César“), Eva Zaoralová, Petr Vachler and Václav Marhoul (Česká filmová a televizní akademie), Kim Magnusson (Danish Film Academy), Christiane Teichgräber (Deutsche Filmakademie e. V.), Manuela Pineskj (Ente David di Donatello), Marion Döring and Nikola Joetze (European Film Academy e.V.), Deirdre Hopkins and Aine Moriarty (Irish Film and Television Awards), Dariusz Jablonski (Polish Film Academy), Kirill E. Razlogov and Marina Toropygina (National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Scences of Russia).
Meetings organised by the Club des Producteurs Européens were held within the framework of the festival.
FILM INDUSTRY EVENTS
East of the West Panel of Projects - A presentation of new feature films from Central and Eastern Europe
This event acquainted international buyers, festival programmers, and film distributors with newly finished films or films in post-production from Central and Eastern Europe that do not have their official premiere until after the end of the Karlovy Vary festival. Presenting producers had 10 minutes to introduce each project, including a six-minute trailer for the film. Within this year’s presentation 27 films were introduced (Bulgaria 5 / Croatia 2 /Czech Republic 6 / Latvia 4 /Poland 8 /Slovak Republic 2).
Private Industry Screenings
Eleven recently completed films (Czech and Polish) which were presented at the East of the West Panel had a private Industry screening outside of the official festival program.
DocuTalents from the East 2006
This presentation gave an overview of noted talents in documentary film from Central and Eastern Europe. The directors and producers of the eight selected films (Czech Republic (2), Bulgaria, Hungary, Macedonia / Croatia, Latvia, Russia, Slovak Republic) had ten minutes to present their documentary films and trailers, which will be out in cinemas and in the programmes of international film festivals in 2006 and 2007. The event was held in cooperation with the Institute for Documentary Film and the International Documentary Film Festival - Jihlava.
How to Successfully Request MEDIA Support
A seminar held by the MEDIA Program. Tips on how to request distribution support, including the possibility for project consultation.
Industry Meetings
Daily afternoon meeting of film professionals, within the projects and programmes of film institutions taking part in this year's festival, were introduced (peacefullfish, Czech Film Centre, One World IFF, Aerofilms, Wallflower Press, Prague Short Film Festival).
