While you’re strolling around on the first floor between the terrace and the meeting point, you might happen upon this artistic exhibit. On Monday, there was a celebratory vernissage to open the exhibit of the Slovak director and screenwriter Dušan Hanák. This summer, he also has a film retrospective at the festival, where Pictures of the Old World and The Rosy Dreams are showing. The vernissage coincided with the release of the DVD version of his Papírové hlavy, which was shown at KVIFF in 1996 in the documentary competition and won the jury award.
The exhibit has the name “Notes and References” and is divided into two parts. First, the part named “Notes” is an anthology of photographs taken of “other people.” Peter Michalovič, the curator of the exhibit organization the Slovak Film Institute, said that it’s truly just “a photographic eye that can chronicle all these things, before they’re erased.” The second part is called “References” and displays photographs, posters, graffiti, and writings on the walls, which are captured, as if they were changing over time. Also conspicuous are various pictures, which according to Michalovič “capture the unseen side of the world.”
