July 2 - 10, 2010
While the new multi-purpose hall KV Arena has been ready since the middle of June, the Karlovy Vary film festival won’t be using the premises to full capacity until next year. “There was a delay with the final approval of the construction work and we didn’t want to risk it not being completely ready by the opening of the festival, particularly when Dr Zaoralová plans the films for specific screening halls in advance,” explained festival President Jiří Bartoška at yesterday’s press conference.
Nevertheless, the new arena will be opened to the public as a screening hall at this year’s festival. On Sunday 5 July it will host a screening of the war drama Tobruk, in an exclusive digital 4K version. The first Czech film to be treated using this high-quality technology will be screened in Vary twice – at 4pm for accredited festival guests, and at 8pm for all viewers.

Both performances will be introduced by a delegation from the film, headed by director, screenwriter and producer Václav Marhoul. Advance ticket sales for the Tobruk screening began today, Wednesday, via the advance sales network Ticketportal (also at Čas cinema, Karlovy Vary’s Info centre, Kawex travel agency and other venues).
On Wednesday 8 July at 10pm the KV Arena will also be hosting a Karlovy Vary Evening, for which the public can also purchase tickets for 99 CZK, also via Ticketportal advance sales outlets. The evening will entail the premiere of a 10-minute documentary film about the spa town, edited from films which were shot in Karlovy Vary.
