Festival tips for 8 July

July 08, 2017, 6:00

The 52nd annual KVIFF will culminate with a traditional closing ceremony, which will start after 6 p.m. in the Grand Hall. At it, director Václav Vorlíček  and actor Jeremy Renner will receive the KVIFF President's Awards. The awards for the best films in the main competition, East of the West competition and documentary competition will naturally also be handed out.

But the last day of the festival isn't just about handing out awards. Films are still being screened in most of the theatres for the whole day. At 10:30 p.m., director Václav Vorlíček will introduce his comedy The Girl on the Broomstick in the Summer Cinema. The cult American film from 1980 Blue Lagoon will be screened in the Small Hall starting at 6:30 p.m. The masterful directorial debut of successful screenwriter Taylor Sheridan Wind River, in which Jeremy Renner plays the main role, will be shown starting at 7 p.m. in the Národní dům Cinema. Terminator 2: Judgement Day will play in its newly remastered version in 3D starting at 11:59 p.m. in the Small Hall. At midnight, viewers in the Grand Hall will be able to see the action film Baby Driver about a young and extremely talented driver that drives around criminals during heists.

At Czech Television House on Divadelní náměstí, starting at 3 p.m., there will be a talk for the film Přání k mání (Wish for the Taking). Director Vit Karas, the producer and actors will acquaint the audience with this new Christmas story.

Taking care of the musical programme will be the contemporary electronic music event Velvet at Císařské lázně (Lázně I). Performing will be French DJ AWB, who is currently shaping the Parisian electronic music scene and who will be joined by two Czech DJs fleika and Higgins.
