New Hollywood´s Guests

June 27, 2007, 1:36 PM

Karlovy Vary audiences will be able to look forward to seeing the actress and former model Cybill Shepherd, who is a guest at this year’s New Hollywood retrospective. Shepherd, who arrived here at KV IFF on Tuesday, appeared in Martin Scorsese´s Taxi Driver and in Peter Bogdanovich’s Daisy Miller. She has devoted herself more to television since the 1980s, and her role as Maddy Hayes, accompanied by Bruce Willis as detective David Addison in Moonlighting, also brought her fame in the Czech Republic. This role brought her three Golden Globes and several nominations for an Emmy.

Bud Cort, who was introduced into the world of film by the recently departed Robert Altman, presented Hal Ashby´s Harold and Maude at Karlovy Vary, in which he played one of the title roles. Cort, whose promising career was derailed by a serious car crash in 1979, appeared in Altman´s films M.A.S.H. and Brewster McCloud. For his role as 20-year-old Harold, a peculiar introvert obsessed with funerals, he received a Golden Globe nomination for best actor. Bud Cort is the youngest actor ever to be honored by the Cinematheque Française.

Another guest in this section is director Monte Hellman, who has presented his existential road movie Two-Lane Blacktop at Karlovy Vary.
