Master of cult zombie films George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead), who has already been announced as a guest at the 50th Karlovy Vary IFF, will be presenting a screening of his action sci-fi horror The Crazies (1973). The story follows the helpless inhabitants of a town paralysed by paranoia amid the spread of a madness-inducing plague. The director will be present for the film’s screening on Saturday, 4 July, at 9:30 pm in the Karlovy Vary Theatre.

The young Lebanese director Ely Dagher, winner of this year’s Palme d’Or for best short film at Cannes, has also agreed to present his film Waves’ 98 in person. The partly animated look back at the dismal post-war atmosphere in Lebanon in the late 1990s will top off the A Week of Lebanese Cinema section, and will open the screening of the film A Perfect Day on Tuesday, 7 July, at 12:30 pm in the Small Hall.

Also on its way from Cannes is the long-awaited film LOVE by Gaspar Noé (Irréversible, Enter the Void), the Argentinian enfant terrible of international film who is based in France. A wandering 3D reverie of the most passionate relationship the protagonist ever experienced, titillating erotic spectacle and melancholic love story, the film has the reputation of being the most scandalous thing to come out of this year’s Cannes festival. Karlovy Vary audiences will be able to see the 3D version of the film in an exclusive sneak preview on Friday, 10 July at midnight in the Čas Cinema.
