News Première of the lost illusionist

The true story of the disappearance of a German illusionist in Norway inspired the melancholic Norwegian co-production The Disappearing Illusionist, one of the international premières at this year's Karlovy Vary Festival.

"It is not only dedicated to the real Dirk Ohm, but to all lonely people. He was likely one of them," said director Bobbie Peers by way of introduction. During the post-film discussion he then explained why he selected August Diehl for the main role of the lost man. "I liked his photograph. He has a face that can carry silence." Along with scriptwriter Bjørn Olaf Johannessen he also offered viewers several versions of what might have happened to the Dirk in the film and why he disappeared. He did not, however, demonstrate any magic tricks he learned during filming to the audience at Pupp. "I cannot reveal anything. But it was quite a disappointment to learn how easily many tricks are actually done."
