A fresh wind from the Australian highway is blowing through the zombie genre. When the vast majority of the Antipodes is transformed into the living dead, kickass Barry and his pal Benny set out on a journey across the Outback à la Mad Max to save Barry’s sister from the clutches of a mad scientist conducting a secret experiment.
Synopsis
A comet blazes across the Australian nighttime sky, altering Earth’s natural law. In the aftermath of the comet’s breakup, most people turn into zombies, but the cosmic disturbance also disables internal combustion engines. When auto mechanic Barry wakes up the next morning he’s got two problems: his wife and daughter have turned into murderous beasts and his car won’t start. So he sets out with three other survivors on a journey through the Australian wilderness, along highways using the only available means of transport – a car powered by zombie propulsion. This post-apocalyptic road movie, packed with black humor and beefcake action, evokes Dawn of the Dead and Mad Max in equal measure. It finds Barry scouring the Outback to save a sister who has been kidnapped by a maniacal military scientist experimenting with the gray matter of the newly-created undead. But the Doc has miscalculated with regard to Barry’s kin, something he and his surviving soldiers soon discover as they mercilessly terrorize the rest of humanity.

About the director
Kiah Roache-Turner maintained a heavy diet of movies as a self-taught director, and his first foray into moviemaking came at age 13 with a small camera he received for his birthday. He graduated from a digital media academy in Sydney, during which time he showed his photographic work, participating in a number of joint and solo exhibitions. He worked for aussieBum fashions for six years shooting promotional videos, working fast on a low budget: a do-it-yourself approach he applied to his film work. In 2010 he and brother Tristan founded Guerrilla Films productions, and together they have created award-winning short films, commercials, and music videos. Huge fans of the zombie genre, they created their debut feature supported by a wider community of fans with the help of a crowdfunding campaign.
