One of the contenders for the East of the West prize at this year’s KVIFF is the low-budget Romanian film The World Belongs to Me by Nicolae Constantin Tanase (30). In an interview, the director discusses his understanding for the world of his 16-year-old protagonist Larisa and her small-town peers, why he chose non-actresses for the film’s lead roles, and whether the Romanian “New Wave” is still in motion.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
