The hugely prolific US film composer James Newton Howard received Karlovy Vary’s Crystal Globe for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema at the festival’s opening ceremony. Afterwards he conducted a selection from his score for the 2018 sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in a huge public concert. In an interview before those events, Howard – whose credits include everything from Pretty Woman to the Hunger Games series – discussed his early inspirations, composing for different various genres and more.
