Le dep

Forum of Independents - Competition 2015 / Le dep / Canada 2015

One night Lydia is attacked as she’s preparing to close her father’s store, and in the next few hours she is forced to make a number of life-altering decisions. In her powerful psychological drama, the director demonstrates her sensitivity in depicting the world of the Innu community as well as the inner emotions of the young protagonist.

Synopsis

Late one night when Lydia is preparing to close up the shop owned by her father she is robbed at gunpoint by a drug addict. During the traumatic experience she is forced to make many life-altering decisions. The debuting writer-director concentrates on limning the relationships between the main characters, and the picture’s growing suspense is intensified by the awareness of the bond between the characters. The narratively simple plot of this psychological drama unfolds during a night that serves the director not only as a starting point for sensitively capturing the heroine’s internal feelings but also as a social probe into the difficulties facing the contemporary Innu community. Well-selected music and the presence of actual Innu actors strengthen the film’s authentic atmosphere.
