Wind River Wind River

Synopsis

Out in the desolate snowy tundra of Wyoming, game tracker Cory Lambert discovers the body of a Native American woman. The investigation is led by newly qualified FBI agent Jane Banner, who has arrived at the remote Wind River Indian Reservation from Las Vegas, totally unprepared for the harsh climate up north. She asks Cory to help with the investigation and together they try to get to the bottom of the mysterious death… After success as a screenwriter (Sicario and Hell or High Water), Taylor Sheridan likewise proves his mettle as a first-time director. In his atmospheric mystery thriller he skilfully exploits the inhospitable snow-clad Wyoming landscape, where law enforcement is a tough deal; at the same time he focuses attention on the unsatisfactory position of Native Americans. Playing the taciturn game tracker Cory, a man marked by personal tragedy, Jeremy Renner gives one of the most complex performances in recent times. At the Cannes festival this year, where it was screened in its European premiere, the film won Un Certain Regard’s Best Director Award.
