Warm Comedy about Depression, Madness and Unfulfilled Dreams

Future Frames: Ten New Filmmakers To Follow 2018 / Hrejivá komédia o depresii, šialenstve a nesplnených snoch / Slovak Republic 2017

States of depression or mild insanity shouldn’t immediately be viewed as something negative. Talented director Michal Ďuriš portrays a family whose members have known each other for so long that it’s difficult to differentiate between love and cabin fever. Everyone will experience a crisis at some point in their lives, but it’s important to talk about it. Even if it means potential dialogue will be replaced with sticky notes.

Synopsis

Two adolescent sons and their parents. A family whose members have known each other for so long that their mutual affection can feel like cabin fever. They all have dreams they want the others to validate, perhaps even more than their need to fulfill those dreams. Michal Ďuriš encloses his family into individual frames on-screen, a claustrophobia-inducing choice that mirrors the characters’ constricted daily lives.
