We are introducing juries of the 51st Karlovy Vary IFF

Grand Jury

Maurizio Braucci, Italian novelist and screenwriter. He is co-creator of Matteo Garrone’s Gomorrah and Reality Show, Abel Ferrara’s Napoli Napoli Napoli and Pasolini or Francesco Munzi’s Black Souls. In Napoli, where he was born and still lives, he is engaged in the organization of social projects for underprivileged kids.

Eve Gabereau, cofounder and managing director of Soda Pictures, an Anglo-Canadian film distributor. Soda Pictures recent distribution activities include Rams, Disorder, and Louder Than Bombs. They are currently bringing Cannes hits Paterson and Toni Erdmann to British theaters.

Martha Issová, Czech film and theater actress. At age 16, she debuted in Karel Kachyňa’s Hanele. Since then she has appeared in numerous films, Night Owls (2008) brought her the Best Actress Crystal Globe at KVIFF. She has been thrice nominated for a Czech Lion.

George Ovashvili, Georgian director. In 2009 his feature debut The Other Bank screened in the East of the West Competition at KVIFF. His second feature effort Corn Island (2014) garnered the Crystal Globe for Best Film at the 49th KVIFF and was shortlisted among nine films vying for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.

Jay Van Hoy, American producer, a longtime advisor at the Sundance Institute Creative Producing Lab. In 2004 he cofounded Parts & Labor, a production company dedicated to director-driven pictures. He participated in the creation of Beginners, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Love Is Strange, The Witch or this year’s Cannes favorite American Honey.

East of the West Jury

Carmen Gray, film critic and journalist. She was born in New Zealand and lives in Berlin.
Tolga Karaçelik, Turkish director and screenwriter, creator of award-winning feature and short films.
Mikuláš Novotný, Czech producer, of the spiritual comedy Journey to Rome.
Agnieszka Smoczyńska, Polish film director. Her feature debut The Lure won Special Jury Prize at Sundance.
Yoshi Yatabe, Japanese festival organiser and producer and distributor of documentary films.

Documentary Film Jury

Sigrid Jonsson Dyekjær P.G.A. , Danish producer who has helped create more than twenty acclaimed documentary films since 2000.
Hana Kulhánková currently manages the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, the largest human rights doc fest in the world.
Laurent Bécue-Renard, French director and producer, his films include War-Wearied and Of Men and War.
