Controversial Daliborek introduced himself

July 03, 2017, 17:57

Vít Klusák’s new documentary, The White World According to Daliborek, had its world premiere in Karlovy Vary on Sunday. This film tracks the life of one small-town Czech neo-Nazi and his closest friends and relatives. During the introduction, the filmmaker declared that he is ashamed of the president of the Czech Republic and of the president’s statements about the location of the former concentration camp in Lety. “We made this film because we wanted to oppose such nonsense,” said Klusák to a packed Grand Hall.

After the second screening the next day, Vít Klusák also took part in a debate with the audience. The first question to be posed to the director at the Drahomíra Theatre was to what extent did he stage the scenes with Dalibor and his friends and relatives. “I wouldn’t say the situations were staged. They were rather reconstructions of what we saw and experienced in the household,” explained the documentary filmmaker. In response to the question how the filmmaker motivated the protagonists, he said: “They are happy that someone is taking an interest in them, because normally no one asks their opinion about anything.”
