Little Crusader, the second feature by the unconventional Czech director Václav Kadrnka, is competing for the Crystal Globe for Best Film at the 52nd KVIFF. A cinematic poem loosely inspired by The Little Crusader of Svojanov by poet Jaroslav Vrchlický, it delivers a visually elegant story of a search for a lost son set in the 13th century. In an interview, Kadrnka discusses his own initial impressions of the Vrchlický poem, the film’s design and why he considers it important to offer cinema viewers quietness, stillness and purity.
