Julianne Moore likes personal stories

June 29, 2019, 15:20

Oscar winner Julianne Moore yesterday received her Crystal Globe and together with her husband, director Bart Freundlich, and her friend, actor Billy Crudup, she introduced the new film After the Wedding. Today, these three special guests at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival answered journalists' questions at a press conference.

The conversation centred around topics such as the difference between a commercial film and a personal one. "My best experiences as an actress are with filmmakers who shoot personal stories that reflect who we are," said Moore. There were also a number of questions concerning the nature of a collaboration between people who are in such a close relationship with one another. "From the personal point of view, it was great to be able to be together as a family - especially as our seventeen-year-old daughter was production assistant," Freundlich told us.

The artists also explained what they found so enticing about Danish director Susanna Bier's film, also entitled After the Wedding, which they used as a model. "It's not about heroes and villains. They all have flaws," said director-screenwriter Freundlich. "Filmmakers often determine what direction a film should take, but every one of those characters thinks they have made the right decision. The film shows the lives people make for themselves through their relationships," the actress described. "We usually learn nothing from our errors until our children unabashedly reveal them to us, especially during their pubescent years," added Crudup.

Moore and Freundlich cast their minds back to the first time they worked together on The Myth of Fingerprints, which they will present this evening in the Municipal Theatre. "That was where I learned that every actor needs a different approach in order to be able to give their best performance. I believe that one of my strong points today is my ability to hire the right people," Bart Freundlich said of his début.
