Three brothers set out into the wide world to gather experience and, along the way, they get caught up in the familiar settings of celebrated fairy tales where they have to deal with various pitfalls and unexpected situations, but they might also find love... A major part in this epic film fairy tale is played by the catchy songs created by popular duo Zdeněk Svěrák and Jaroslav Uhlíř.
Synopsis
Three brothers leave the comfort of their home and set out into the wide world to gather experience and find themselves wives. Along the way our heroes get caught up in the familiar settings of Sleeping Beauty, The Twelve Months and Little Red Riding Hood, where they not only have to deal with the standard fairytale obstacles, but also win the hearts of their true loves. Director Jan Svěrák’s model for Three Brothers was a successful stage musical created by his father, scriptwriter Zdeněk Svěrák, and composer Jaroslav Uhlíř. “When I was looking for material for my fairy tale, I discovered that all the classic tales had already been adapted for the screen,” says Jan Svěrák, “but never with music like this.” Three Brothers is more like a fairy-tale operetta than a mere fairy tale with songs; moreover, we witness Svěrák’s fondness for combining live actors with puppet animation, as he did in his previous family hit, Kooky. Three Brothers topped the Czech attendance charts for 2014.
