Festival tips for Wednesday, 3 July

July 03, 2019, 6:00

The beautiful countryside of Patagonia, Chile is a spellbinding ambit for the unexpected reunion of a father and his daughter after many years of separation in the film The Man of the Future, which will be screened in the Grand Hall by Chilean film director Felipe Ríos at 17:00. Also in the festival's Official Selection section is the hazily hypnotic Mosaic Portrait by Chinese film director Zhai Yixiang, the story of a pregnant fourteen-year-old girl, which will be screened at 20:00 in the Grand Hall.

A talk about the film A White, White Day will take place at 12:00 today in the Czech Television House. Icelandic Hlynur Pálmason's emotionally complex and hypnotic film is listed in the festival's Horizons section.

The cult "rhythmical of the totalitarian age" Smoke, set amid the sulphurous fumes suffusing Ostrava's steelworks, will be screened at 22:30 in the Grand Hall. It is included in the festival's Liberated section, commemorating thirty years since the Velvet Revolution.

A Day for the City and Region offers an afternoon and evening full of dance, concerts and various events. This event, entitled "In Time with the Film Festival", begins at 14:00 in Dvořákovy sady (where the group Mirai will play a concert at 18:00), moving at 21:00 to the Mill Colonnade, where it will culminate with a concert by Miro Žbirka accompanied by the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra. The No Barriers Project will also take place today at the Mill Colonnade starting from 15:00, for which the parkour team IN MOTION has prepared an unforgettable show that will also include wheelchair users.
