"Drugs, cigarettes, great music and sex - it sounds like the home video of one of you from last night," said moderator Sasha Michailidis to welcome the audience to the Grand Hall before the screening of the Belgian film Belgica. It is about two brothers who run a night club together and get too carried away with nightlife. "For the rest of us who never had the courage to put the aforementioned ingredients together, this film will be a trip into Wonderland. Especially for the children I saw in the audience," Michailidis added.
The viewers were then also welcomed by Felix Van Groeningen, who is also in Karlovy Vary as a mentor for the talents in the section Future Frames. "Maybe you saw my film Broken Circle Breakdown here three years ago. It was a melodrama full of emotions and bluegrass music. This time I wanted to shoot something different. Belgica is based on various stories and memories. My dad once owned a similar bar that he then sold to two brothers. But aside from sex, drugs and rock'n'roll the film is about brotherhood and the melancholy of nightlife," said the author of this movie, which will be hitting Czech cinemas this Thursday.
