Karlovy Vary festival enters its final stretch

July 05, 2024, 11:32

This year’s Karlovy Vary film festival is nearing its conclusion, with the closing ceremony set for Saturday. British actor Clive Owen and Czech laureate Ivan Trojan will receive the Festival President’s Award, and winners of the Crystal Globe and Proxima Competitions will be announced.

Statistics show that by Thursday evening, 114,700 tickets for 330 festival screenings were sold, closely mirroring the attendance at last year’s 57th KVIFF.

This year’s programme offered several titles that have drew exceptional interest. These were, in particular, the three Czech films that made their world premieres at the festival – Jiří Mádl’s Waves, the competition film Our Lovely Pig Slaughter by Adam Martinec, and Theodora Remundová’s documentary Actress about her mother Iva Janžurová. All screenings of these films were completely sold out. We are pleased that the festival audience appreciates domestic productions, though we regret we could not meet the high demand for tickets for these films.

As there have been individual comments from visitors regarding tickets to the festival screenings, we would like to remind you that, for the remaining days, reservations can be made via the KVIFF Guide app and tickets can be purchased also directly at box offices.  Daily, over 5500 festival tickets have been booked through the app. If the app’s reservation capacity is full, tickets can be obtained at the festival box offices with Festival Passes or purchased for individual screenings. Most of the box offices continuously display available tickets for the festival screenings so that those interested can choose an alternative film if the selected title has been sold out. An additional option for Festival Pass holders is to find unoccupied seats in the cinema hall, though their availability is very limited for popular films. The capacity of the hall may be fully taken by valid ticket holders. The sales of Festival Passes to date are on par with previous years.

As the organizers of the Karlovy Vary festival, we value and continue to address visitor feedback to make improvements in the following years.
