The twentieth anniversary edition of Pragueshorts, organized by the team behind the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, has announced the winning films. The main prize in the International Competition goes to director Simon Schneckenburger’s German social drama Skin on Skin about two men whose lives come together at a slaughterhouse. Special mention went to Anastazja Naumenko’s animated documentary Can You Hear Me? and Austria’s Ruletista by director Lukas Valenta Rinner.
In the National Competition, the winning film was Philippe Kastner’s Wolfie, with special mentions going to Eliška Jirásková’s animated documentary Better Man and Marie Lukáčová’s rap fairy tale Orla, which also took home the festival’s Audience Award.
The winning film in the LABO section was the Kafkaesque courtroom drama Loynes by Belgian director Dorian Jespers; the LABO jury awarded special mention to Someone to Steal Horses With by American multimedia artist Dylan Pailes-Friedman.
On Sunday 1 March, the festival starts its online run at KVIFF.TV, where until 22 March you can see more than fifty films from the festival program, including most of the winning films. The festival’s online part is accessible to all subscribers of the service – a monthly subscription is available for CZK 179.
The Pragueshorts Film Festival is made possible thanks to support from the Czech Audiovisual Fund and the City of Prague. The festival’s main partner is the ČEZ Group. The partner of the National Competition and the LABO competition is the Medicine fashion label.
