The Tsugua Diaries

Horizons 2021 / Diários de Otsoga / Portugal, France 2021

Three close friends, Crista, Carloto, and João – along with the entire film crew – become the protagonists of a cinematic experiment shot during lockdown. Delve into the colorful world of one of the most playful films of the pandemic, for which personal restrictions provided a source of inspiration and pure joy in the creative process.

The Tsugua Diaries The Tsugua Diaries

Synopsis

Crista, Carloto, and João want to build a greenhouse for butterflies. But these three friends aren’t alone in their interest in this project. They are joined by the filmmakers themselves, Miguel Gomes and Maureen Fazendeiro, who – along with the entire film crew – become the protagonists of this cinematic experiment. Here, fiction imperceptibly blends with documentary sequences in order to reveal the creative process as the directors share their sense of pure joy from working with the cinematic medium. The pandemic may have uncompromisingly complicated all our lives, but for the filmmakers it was a challenge to find inspiration in limitation. Ignore all linear chronology and delve into the brightly colored world of one of the most playful films of lockdown-era cinema.
