How does it feel when a loved one is dying and the time suddenly seems to have stopped upon her death? A poetic Austrian drama Those Who Fall Have Wings is premiered for the first time worldwide on Wednesday within the Official Selection – Competition Section. This strong story captures the unique feeling of the last days two granddaughters, Kati and Pia, spend with their grandmother. Kati’s frequent inner monologues allow us to look into her feelings and thus understand the difficult times she is having...

This inward-looking drama directed by Peter Brunner reflects the influence of its director’s mentor, Michael Haneke. “The most important lecture I got from Haneke was when he forced me to try to stand before the camera and act. This allowed me to gain better insight into and understanding of my characters,” explained the young director at the press conference.

He also answered the question whether or not he had consulted a professional before shooting the film. “I have not consulted any psychiatrist, but rather followed my personal approach, associating it with certain images and moods.” revealed Brunner.
