Among the pictures in contention for the main prize at the 50th KVIFF is Gold Coast, the feature debut by Danish director Daniel Dencik. The picture takes a rare look at European involvement in slavery, specifically the actions of Danes in today’s Ghana in the 1830s. In an interview, Dencik – who has been a frequent visitor to Karlovy Vary in recent years – discusses his Renaissance man protagonist Wulff and what he learned about colonialism during his preparations for the powerful film.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
