Festival tips for Thursday, 6 July

July 06, 2017, 8:00

Today once again the KVIFF Talk section offers an interesting programme, starting at 1:30 p.m. in Thermal Hotel Cinema C. This time you will hear American film editor Sarah Flack, holder of the BAFTA prize for her work on Sofia Coppola's renowned film Lost in Translation. Their collaboration continued with the films Marie Antoinette, Somewhere, The Bling Ring, A Very Murray Christmas and The Beguiled, which is being presented at the 52nd Karlovy Vary IFF. Flack has received an Emmy for her work editing the HBO-produced film Cinema Verite.

Entering the main competition today is the unorthodox romantic comedy Keep the Change about two people who meet at a support group session. American director Rachel Israel will unveil it in its international premiere at 5 p.m. in the Hotel Thermal Grand Hall. Presenting a narratively bold look into the social spider web of the Himalayan region of Sikkim and the influence of cultural immigration on life there is the competition film Ralang Road. It will be introduced by Indian director Karma Takapa along with others starting at 8 p.m. in the Grand Hall.

Starting at 11:30 a.m. in the Grand Hall, an extra screening will take place of I am Heath Ledger, a documentary portrait of the actor who played the iconic role of the Joker. Using the actor's private archives, the film conveys his perception of the world. Director Václav Vorlíček will introduce a gala presentation of the film Who Wants to Kill Jessie? starting at 4 p.m. in the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre. Upon his arrival he will greet spectators on the red carpet.
