Spanish director Gustavo Salmerón presented his feature-length debut Lots of Kids, a Monkey and a Castle in the documentary competition at this year’s Karlovy Vary IFF. Salmerón began shooting the fascinating, humorous portrait of his own family in 2002 and it took him a full 15 years to complete. In an interview, he speaks about his matriarchal, eccentric mother and the whole family’s reaction to being in the spotlight.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
