Nespresso announces the 2018 Nespresso Talents contest, which aims to present outstanding talents from all over the world. The subject of this year’s unique cinema contest is “What only she can do.” The contest’s third year pushes the boundaries of traditional approaches to filmmaking by requiring that all submitted films be shot in vertical formal (9:16). Participants can thus test their creativity from a completely new perspective. The best films from the Czech national round will be announced at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

The Nespresso Talents contest is the first of its kind in the world. In 2017, some 317 videos were submitted from more than 40 different countries. The Czech Republic can be proud of winner Darja Kascheva, whose short animated film To Accept did well in the international round and won an award at the International Film Festival in Cannes.

The contest takes place from 8 February to 25 March 2018. Films may be registered at Nespresso.com/talents. A jury of film experts will choose the best two films from 15 nominations, all of which can be viewed for free at Nespresso.com/talents. The winners receive not only a financial reward to launch their cinematic careers, but are also invited to the Cannes International Film Festival to attend the official announcement of winners. Both winners will also participate in seminars at Cannes hosted by representatives of the Semaine de la Critique and Berlinale Talents.
