Greek director Romain Gavras, whose work to date usually fell under the category of short films and music videos (e.g., the video to the song “Stress” by the French electronic duo Justice), presented his feature-length film The World is Yours (Le Monde et à toi) in Karlovy Vary.
The comedy, which was positively received already in Cannes, tells the story of a drug dealer who is trying to fulfil his dream: to save enough to purchase the Mr Freeze ice lolly franchise. “I don’t know what to say about the film. It’s a French film, so I hope it’s going to be subtitled, or there won’t be much point in seeing it. Otherwise it’s a great film. It’s like Star Wars without the spaceships,” said Gavras, making the packed hall laugh.
