Favourite festival director and his White, White Day

July 01, 2019, 15:45

Hlynur Pálmason’s debut feature Winter Brothers has become one of the most often screened films at festivals worldwide, and the same fate probably awaits his second movie. The drama A White, White Day follows the journey of a widower who begins to question whether he truly knew his wife. It was first presented at the Cannes festival within the Critics' Week section, where the film had found its way in particular thanks to Charles Tesson, a member of this year’s KVIFF jury. The Karlovy Vary festival hosts the Czech premiere of the film and will subsequently bring it to the Czech cinemas under the KVIFF Distribution label.

“It is a pleasure to be here and see such a large audience at the cinema”, the young Icelandic director expressed his joy before the public. The actor playing the main character, Ingvar Sigurðsson, who won an award for his work at the Cannes festival, recalled that this was his third visit to the KVIFF. “First we brought the film Angels of the Universe, and it was chilly here. When I came for the second time, I presented the film Jar City, and it was warmer. Today, it’s very hot, but equally nice to be here.”
