The last film in this year's special Liberated section (and also the youngest), The Inheritance, was originally meant to be called Good Fortune is a Beautiful Thing. Bolek Polívka created and also co-wrote the theme of this story about how sudden wealth can bewitch people. He played the main part under the direction of his favourite Věra Chytilová, with whom he first worked in 1980 on the film Calamity.
"It's one of four films that attempted to map the topic of restitution in the 1990s. It was received with embarrassment, to put it mildly. Some people wrote the film director off to an early retirement, and when out for a beer Polívka had to explain to people that the film was an example of how not to behave, not the other way round," the section moderator, Pavel Sladký, reminded us.
