KVIFF at Your Cinema enters its second half

July 07, 2020, 12:22

From 3 July 2020, ninety-six cinemas throughout the Czech Republic have been hosting the KVIFF at Your Cinema film festival, which has been organized by the team from the Karlovy Vary film festival. During the festival’s first weekend (from Friday to Monday), the films selected by the KVIFF programming team have been visited by 13,453 people.

The most successful film so far is the opening film – Australian director Shannon Murphy’s Babyteeth, which was seen by 3,982 people. Thanks to KVIFF Distribution, on 9 July this emotional story of first love will come to Czech cinemas in regular distribution.

Thanks to its capacity, the most-visited cinema so far is the Grand Hall of the Hotel Thermal.

The members of the festival team have already traveled to more than 20 places throughout the country, and are still planning to visit Pilsen, Pardubice, Hradec Králové, Olomouc, Prostějov, and several other cities. KVIFF’s president Jiří Bartoška will personally greet audiences on 9 July  at 8pm at Brno’s Scala Cinema and on 10 July at 5pm at the Dukla Cinama in Jihlava. On Wednesday 8 July, Vary at Your Cinema will host the world premiere of the music documentary MEKY, which will feature a talk with director Šimon Šafránek and musician Miroslav Žbirka that will be streamed live to all participating cinemas.

From 7 to 11 July, every day at 3pm, audiences can watch a live-stream interview with one of the film’s directors on the festival’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

On 6 July, we successfully launched our KVIFF Eastern Promises Industry Days 2020 for film professionals, which this year is being held in a primarily online. The program’s highlight is a live panel discussion called TADY INDUSTRY (HERE INDUSTRY) (9 July at 2pm at Prague’s Přítomnost Cinema) about the Czech film industry during the Covid-19 crisis, including its impacts and future outlooks. The panelists will represent a broad spectrum of Czech audiovisual professionals.

KVIFF at Your Cinema continues until 11 July. For more information about the program and films, and a list of participating cinemas, please visit www.kviff.com. Tickets for the various screenings may be purchased directly from the individual cinemas.
