The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is pleased to welcome several more honored guests: the creators behind the unique documentary Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story.
The film, which will have its international premiere on 6 July at 2pm in the Hotel Thermal’s Grand Hall as part of the festival’s Special Screenings section, will be personally introduced by directors Nate Pommer and Eric Weinrib and the film’s protagonist – musician and Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hütz. The screening will be followed by a brief musical performance by Eugene Hütz. One of the film’s executive producers is last year’s guest of the Karlovy Vary festival, actor, director, and producer Liev Schreiber.
This is Hütz’s second time in Karlovy Vary; he was a guest of the festival in 2004, when he was in the Czech Republic to film Everything Is Illuminated with director Liev Schreiber and actor Elijah Wood.
Scream of My Blood: A Gogol Bordello Story had its world premiere at the recent Tribeca Film Festival, where it earned director Nate Pommer a Special Jury Mention for Best New Documentary Director. Pommer spent more than two decades following Gogol Bordello’s activities within the context of personal and societal events. Co-director Eric Weinrib has received numerous awards for his documentary work, was nominated for an Emmy Award, and is a long-time collaborator of documentary icon Michael Moore.
Last year, Eugene Hütz and several other musicians recorded the song “The Man With the Iron Balls” in honor of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Joining him in the studio were Primus frontman Les Claypool, Sean Lennon (son of John), and drummer Stewart Copeland of The Police.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
