From Karlovy Vary to local cinemas: Waves, MaXXXine, Love Lies Bleeding and other hits coming to you soon

July 06, 2024, 21:05

Like in previous year, this year is no exception and you can look forward to selected films from the Karlovy Vary festival program in regular cinema distribution. The opening film of the 58th KVIFF, Viggo Mortensen’s western The Dead Don't Hurt, was already released during the festival. The slasher MaXXXine, presented at the festival by director Ti West, premieres in cinemas on Thursday, 11 July. A week later, you can visit screenings of The Gardener’s Year or the romance from a gym Love Lies Bleeding. You can watch the tennis documentary Nasty on HBO or Max in July.

The remastered Shadows of a Hot Summer will arrive in the Czech cinemas on Thursday, August 1. Just one week later, Our Lovely Pig Slaughter, Adam Martinec’s competition entry, will follow, and the audience favourite Waves will hit the cinemas not long before the anniversary of the August occupation, on Thursday, August 15.

The second Czech competition film, Beata Parkanová’s Tiny Lights, will open in cinemas on September 5, and so will the documentary Tatabojs.doc. The premiere of Jorgos Lanthimos’ new film Kinds of Kindness and of the documentary Actress are scheduled for September 12 and September 26, respectively. The Hypnosis, which won the Best Actor Award at last year’s KVIFF, will be released in the same month.

In October, cinemagoers can look forward to a unique documentary about the photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková I’m Not Everything I Want to Be, as well as Iveta Grófová’s competition entry, the war drama The Hungarian Dressmaker, and Kristina Dufková’s animated film Living Large. The premiere of the documentary Czechoslovak Architecture 58–89 is planned for November. Crossing, The Substances and All We Imagine as Light will also appear in the cinema distribution.

Cinemas’ programmes will also be enriched by the film, which has won awards on the 58th KVIFF in the Crystal Globe Competition and charmed non-statutory juries as well. Soon you can look forward to Loveable by the Norwegian director Lilja Ingolfsdottir, which was purchased by the film distribution company Aerofilms.
