The 59th KVIFF has begun! Throughout the festival, we will bring you daily tips pointing out the main events from the film and accompanying programme on our website and in the Vodafone KVIFF Guide app.
The festival cinemas open at 9 a.m. today. At 12 p.m. starts the first screening of the legendary nine-hour documentary Shoah. The ceremonial opening of the Sue Ryder Zone will take place at noon, presenting this year’s official non-profit partner of the KVIFF. The KVIFF opening ceremony itself is traditionally scheduled for 6 p.m. Star guests will start arriving on the red carpet from 4 p.m. in front of Hotel Thermal, where you can greet them. You can watch the ceremony – where the actress Vicky Krieps and actor Peter Sarsgaard will be presented with the Festival President’s Awards – live on KVIFF.TV. The same applies to the opening film-documentary We've Got to Frame It! (a conversation with Jiří Bartoška in July 2021), which will be streamed online with English subtitles from approximately 9:15 p.m. It will be available only live, globally, free of charge and without registration.
Around 10:45 p.m., the opening concert presenting the British band La Roux follows in front of Hotel Thermal. The admission is free for the public. Fireworks will then conclude the opening celebrations of the 59th KVIFF.
More concerts take place at Mattoni Life Bar at Vřídlo hot springs (Ben Cristovao at 8 p.m. and PSH at 10 p.m.) and Rohlík Park (Thom Artway at 8 p.m.). The complete accompanying programme is available here.
We look forward to seeing you and wish you all a wonderful festival!
