The 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will open with the Argentinian-Spanish documentary The Match. Directed by Juan Cabral and Santiago Franco, the film chronicles the unforgettable 1986 Football World Cup match between Argentina and England. “One of the most captivating movies at this year’s Cannes proves that certain iconic moments from sports history can touch the very essence of human existence,” says KVIFF’s Artistic Director Karel Och.
This anniversary edition of the festival will conclude with a screening of Noah Segan’s melancholic crime drama The Only Living Pickpocket in New York. The film, which had its world premiere at Sundance followed by its international premiere at the Berlinale, stars John Turturro as an old-school pickpocket who finds himself in a dangerous race against time through the city’s streets.
First-hand brews throughout the year.
