Just a normal family. The Bacons present a film about their family making a horror movie

July 11, 2026, 11:00

Kevin Bacon, together with his wife Kyra Sedgwick, son Travis and daughter Sosie, have made a light-hearted, self-referential horror comedy called Family Movie. Following its March premiere at South by Southwest, the film had its international premiere in Karlovy Vary as part of the Afterhours midnight screenings section.

The family introduced in person this meta-story about a family making a B-movie, in which the filmmakers – who also play the lead roles – aren’t afraid to poke fun at themselves. “Thank you for coming after hours. I’m delighted that we can share this film with you. Being here is a dream come true,” said Sedgwick.

“It’s our first time in the Czech Republic and it’s quite a ride. As you’ll see in the film, we made it with Travis, who not only stars in it but also composed all the music. Together with our daughter, who unfortunately isn’t here today. She’s fine, she’s working,” said Bacon, explaining the absence of the fourth member of the creative team.

“We’re going to try something now,” said the couple, before switching to Czech. “We hope you’ll love the film…,” said Sedgwick in Czech, with Bacon finishing the sentence, also in Czech: “just as much as we do.” "We love our family," he added. With the audience in the packed, applauding theatre, the screen came to life with a film in which family love clashes with a bloodbath.
